Flat Garden

Flat Garden 2003, Galerie Michael Neff, Frankfurt

During the summer of 2001 I was an artist in residence at Monet's garden in Giverny, France. Monet's collection of Hiroshige and Hokusai's Ukiyo-e prints of "the floating world" inpsired the collages and wall sculptures. I wanted to explore the garden as a controlled version of nature, both highly artifical and organic at the same time. The flower sculptures, laser cut from large acrylic sheets, create my own endlessly renewable, highly artificial, garden.
